TACTICAL TAMPONS?

In this companion video to a recent article, Joe Alton MD gives his thoughts on a notion that persists on the internet and in the minds of many. There is a widespread belief that tampons are an important addition to medical kits to stop major bleeding from gunshot wounds. This belief is based mostly on second-hand anecdotes (but rarely from post-evac surgical team experience). Dr. Alton outlines his reasons that tampons are less likely to be of real help in medical situations other than for what they were initially intended.
